Seven Islands Maritime Training Institute (SIMTI) is a maritime training institute promoted by Seven Islands Shipping Limited (SISL) – India’s second largest shipping company in the private sector. SIMTI is set up as part of Seven Islands Maritime Training Foundation (SIMTF) – a Section 8 company and a wholly owned subsidiary of SISL.

Through this institute, SISL is looking to build under its aegis a trained cadre of maritime professionals with focus on the requirements of a diverse fleet of vessels. So as to build and maintain the highest quality of maritime education and professionalism, the institute is being headed by industry leaders who have played pivotal roles in setting up, nurturing and administering leading maritime institutes in the country. Furthermore, the coursework for the programs offered by SIMTI is prepared by some of the most experienced maritime educators who have been associated with leading institutes and maritime universities in India. Over time, SIMTI endeavours to become a Maritime Centre of Excellence with research focused on establishing maritime best practices.

To ensure the best possible student experience, SIMTI is being designed by the best educational architects in the country, topped up with inputs from maritime consultants to ensure full compliance with guidelines and standards set forth by the Directorate General of Shipping. SIMTI will be affiliated with the Indian Maritime University in the stream of Nautical Science.

So as to ensure optimum return on investment for students, SIMTI has associated with some of the largest ship owning and management companies in the world, with a view to providing placements to graduating candidates.

By creating and nurturing a community focused on maritime education and ethics, SIMTF endeavours to significantly contribute to the knowledge pool of the seafaring fraternity and, in its own way, aid the larger task of nation building.
