SIMTF has leased 18.4 acres of non-agricultural land along with a prior constructed workshop close to Mumbai (around 50,000 sq ft of developed area). The site of contiguous land is located about 100 kilometers from Mumbai and on the State Highway 92. The fully developed institutional infrastructure will be undertaken by SIMTF after approval from the Directorate General of Shipping. The lease has been structured for a 10-year period. All the facilities and infrastructure of the institute will be modern in style and will be developed as per the guidelines and standards specified in the training manual issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India. The Foundation is already in talks to recruit eminent faculty to teach at the Institute and have receiving applications. Development of property and amenities will be undertaken with the eventual goal of setting up a ‘center of maritime excellence’ – a first of its kind in India. First class of students expected to graduate in the first quarter of calendar year 2023.
