VISION:

Seven Islands Shipping Limited is looking to build under its aegis a trained cadre of maritime professionals with focus on the requirements of a diverse merchant fleet. The organization believes that education is an integral part of community building and nation building, and would like to provide an opportunity for partners like large ship management companies to participate in designing of coursework, in addition to adhering to the framework of the Indian Maritime University. Seven Islands nurtures a goal to establish a maritime centre of excellence with research facilities to establish maritime best practices going forward. The establishment of the institute is also in fulfilment of an MOU signed between SISL and the Directorate General of Shipping, committing to set up a world class maritime training institute, among other industry-enhancing measures.

PURPOSE:

SISL owns a rapidly growing and diversified fleet of tankers. Today, Indian seafarers are very much sought after to man vessels of large ship management companies the world over. However, it is often noticed that fresh seafarers and trainees require re-skilling after joining a company’s merchant vessels, leading to loss of time and resources. Further, with changing technology and compliance requirements, finding younger, appropriately-trained candidates has become a challenge. At SIMTI, potential partners will get an opportunity to monitor progress of seafarers right from their admission to the course until their graduation, better enabling the companies to make informed decisions in placing candidates on the right vessels.

OBJECTIVE:

To create gainful employment for all seafarers who graduate from the Seven Islands Maritime Training Institute and hence, satisfy the demand of trained maritime professionals on fleet of leading ship management companies. SIMTI plans to leverage close ties with some of the world’s largest ship management companies to ensure full placement of our candidates, and hence, build and enhance our reputation as an institute. The institute will provide opportunities for budding seafarers to interact with and learn from over 30 highly experienced marine and technical superintendents from SISL throughout the duration course.
