What courses to do to become a Merchant Navy Officer?

To become a Merchant Navy officer, individuals typically need to undergo specialized training and education. The specific courses required may vary depending on the country and the level of officer one aims to become.

 Electro Technical Officer (ETO) (BE or B-Tech Electrical / Electronics engg.)
 Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) (After 12th)

What is sponsorship? How is it different from a Placement?

A sponsored candidate refers to an individual who is provided with a placement for Structured Shipboard Training Programme (SSTP) aboard a ship by a shipping company BEFORE joining the Pre-sea training programme. This sponsorship doesn’t pertain to covering tuition fees at the pre-sea training institute. In case of Placement, the candidate joins the Pre-sea training at a DG
shipping approved Maritime Training Institute (eg. SIMTI) and during the course the Institute facilitates Placement opportunities.

Does SIMTI (Seven Islands MTI) provide Sponsorship?

YES. SIMTI is a wholly owned subsidiary of SISL (Seven Islands Shipping Ltd.) and provides sponsorship.

Can Female Aspirants apply at Seven Islands MTI?

YES, female aspirants can apply.

What is the selection Process?

a) Online Test: Applicants are required to appear for an online entrance test covering subjects like Mathematics, English, Aptitude, and General Knowledge. Additionally, there’s a Psychometric test assessing candidates’ psychological attributes. The test format is multiple-choice questions.
b) Interview: Candidates who pass the online test and psychometric test are called for an interview, typically conducted in Mumbai. Candidates must be prepared to travel to Mumbai for the interview at short notice.
c) Medical Test: Successful interviewees are then required to undergo a medical examination conducted by doctors appointed by the company (DG approved Doctors).
d) IMU CET (Applicable Only For DNS): As per the regulations of the Government of India, candidates aiming to undergo Pre-Sea Training as Deck Cadets must appear for and pass the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET).
Upon successfully completing these steps and being included in the merit list, candidates are declared shortlisted as Deck Cadets.

Are there any education loans available?

You need to approach a bank of your preference to secure an educational loan. Once you are selected by Seven Islands Maritime Training Institute, we can provide you with the required documents. After that you need to apply on the VIDYALAXMI portal and select your preferred bank and branch. Post which, you will need to do a follow up with the bank.
